About DJ Paul Newhouse

Owner/Director Redbox Records & Zone Magazine – DJ/Producer

Paul Newhouse grew to become an international DJ in a relatively short time span. His interest in the DJ world began when he moved from his hometown of Dublin to live in Germany at the early age of 18 in 1990. Paul was blown away by their underground dance scene and spent many hours studying DJ’s such as Paul Van Dyk, Roland, Tanith and Moby. The two-year experience in Germany led him to purchase his first set of decks in 1993 at the age of 21.

1994 Paul proceeded to setup his own music magazine; Zone Magazine, his intention was to publish a dance music magazine in Ireland, but at the time, after a year working on the project, “dance” music was a grey area for a lot of people, and securing finance for this was very difficult, so the project had to stop.

Paul secured his first ever gig at “The Asylum”, one of Dublin’s first and most famous underground clubs, after previously just playing at private parties. Playing at “The Asylum”, on the top floor, for approximately 6 months before progressing to Radio where he secured a spot on Kiss FM in 1997.

By 1998 Paul was playing a regular two slots a week for a show called “The Classic Collection” and “The Sunday Session”, both on Kiss FM.

During this time Paul progressed his knowledge in other areas also and worked part-time for an Irish Dance Magazine called “Uproar” where he published photographs and wrote articles about the current dance scene. Also developing his knowledge in music production and attended a Dance Music Business Program, and getting his Advanced Diploma in Music Tech., which has provided him with the all round experience and skills required to play at international level, and to equip himself for the label director and magazine publisher job he does now.

In 2001 Paul contacted Pulseradio.net, (voted no.1 internet radio station 2000), and shortly afterwards, he started his own show. He also became station rep. for the UK/Ireland, posting record reviews/interviews and music articles. This position went on for 2 years. Paul moved to the UK from Ireland, and continued to work as a DJ in several clubs and bars.

In 2007 Paul took over a record shop in North Wales, in 2008, due to the download increase, Paul closed the shop, but still has his own shop online.

Moving home to Dublin in May 2008, Paul setup Redbox Records as a dance label and has had big support from people involved in the dance music scene all over the world.

2011 was a great year for Paul, working hard every day on his label, and pushing his sound to Ireland, UK and the rest of the world through his weekly radio shows, and playing in Ireland, UK and several European dates.

Paul’s musical tastes are varied and wide over the years, however, now he specializes in playing Tribal; Tech-House, House, Progressive House & Techno.

His main influences are the likes of Danny Tenaglia, Robbie Rivera, D-unity, D-formation, Sasha, John Digweed, Paul Van Dyk, Oliver Lieb and Timo Mass, which when you hear Paul play is reflected in his music.

This fine young talent comes highly recommended with a natural feel for pleasing the crowd and an ability that’s increasingly recognized, with his smooth mix style, and his love to work the crowd on long DJ sets.

During Paul’s’ time in Ireland and the UK and Ireland, he has built up a following and has found several gigs locally, nationally, and internationally.

From 2016 – 2019 Paul took some time out to go back to college, while continuing to work on Zone Magazine and his website designer work. He now has a degree in counselling and psychotherapy, something he always wanted to do, and a degree in web technology, as he has been working on websites and social media since 2009, so he decided to get a qualification.

Now Paul is based in Spain, Redbox Records, after a 9 year hiatus, is back, and he continues to work on Zone magazine also. Unfortunately, Paul had a bad motorcycle accident in 2022, and is still recovering, but that only stopped him getting DJ gigs, the magazine, and label are still going strong! Hopefully Paul will be back at the gigs soon!

Paul is willing to work with many different people and organizations to further his career in the Music Industry.

“Paul and I know each other a long time and i have always found Paul to be a very talented and passionate DJ – A Lover of electronic music – He worked in Kiss FM Ireland and in a very short time produced what was known as “one of the best Prog house shows on the airwaves at that time”. Paul has now evolved as a Label owner building Redbox Records into a very respected label known for quality EDM releases and what a flair he has for choosing the very hottest in talent for the labels artist roster. Flying the Irish and now International flag of Producers, Redbox is a unique label with a very bright future as its going from strength to strength and showing no signs of slowing down. Im very proud to be back working with Paul as an artist on his label.” Darren Flynn. (Temple Theatre / Kiss FM / BXR Records, HomeGrown Records)

“I always have time to peek inside the Redbox, there is usually something i can use lurking there!’ MR SPRING (2FM, Ireland)

“Paul Newhouse’s Redbox imprint is a label with an excellent artist stable i’ve been airing many releases off Redbox since the start the diversity in each release is a massive plus point and always a useful package of remixes keep it up Paul” ADS LEHANE (rapture.tv)

“To my mind Redbox Records is one of the fastest-improving labels around, with the most recent releases cementing themselves firmly into my record box. Definitely a label to keep an eye on with A&R Paul Newhouse doing sterling work!” JOHN GIBBONS (Club Educate, Ireland)

“I have had an eye on the label for a while now and really digging it!” Generic People (Cork, Ireland)

“Redbox Records is probably Ireland’s most diverse contemporary dance label, releasing everything from techno to house to trance to hard dance. It is evolving into a really good label and Paul has a knack for spotting undiscovered producers and remixers worthy of more attention” MARK KAVANAGH (The Irish Star)

“When I see a Redbox record release come through to my email, I know immediately that I wont be disappointed or feel like Ive waisted my time by listening to the material! Each release has ended up on my show and in my charts, in no small amount due the fact that Paul Newhouse, the label owner, tastefully selects tracks that I know I can use and indeed enjoy playing!” CHRISTIAN HOMAN (R.T.E. Pulse)

“In these troubled (economic) times it’s great to see little labels like Redbox still getting out there, doing their thing and pushing the music they love. More power to their elbow.” RUSSELL DEEKS (I-DJ Magazine)

“Paul Newhouse, is one of the most versatile DJ’s I’ve heard in a long time but on top of that he’s an awesome producer and an even better record label boss. Redbox Records, from their first release that i got sent, I knew there was something about this label and I havent been proven wrong, as each release seems to become better and better whether its the sax from ‘Moonlight Dancefloor’ by DJ Slice’r or the full on remix by Andy Richmond of Hughes and Ballantine’s ‘Horrors’ this label just seem to know exactly what to do to succeed. In my opinion the only way is up for both Paul Newhouse and Redbox Records. STEPHEN MC CONACHIE (Nevis Radio, Scotland, U.K.)

“The quality control at Redbox is evolving at a nice pace, and as such it’s label to watch if you’re into quality techno and tech house”. COLIN SALES (U.K.) “Its been some time now that I’ve been receiving some really quality stuff from Redbox & Paul on which I use a lot on my shows & Gigs!!” HARIS C (Cyprus)

“RedBox and owner Paul newhousee have scouted some great talent for this new fresh label, its great to see a promo email in the inbox from RedBox because you no before you preview it it will be a great track for the show, nice to see a friendly and hard working label a great balance” MICHEAL DOHERTY (i-102 FM, Ireland.)

“I really admire Paul for what he is doing with Redbox Records, breaking new talent, with remixes from Irish established producers, full support from me.” Ian Booth (Dublin, Ireland)

“I think Redbox Records is an exciting new platform showcasing the best of Irish talent from all corners of the island across various genres. Trying to expose new talent is something I am passionate about myself, so I’m very pleased to be signed to the label. With Paul Newhouse at the helm, who has the right pedigree to develop the label further, the future is looking very good, particularly with the constant flow of quality releases”.
